AI Tax Notices - A new way to steal from poor people

AI Tax Notices - A new way to steal from poor people
The corner of an envelope from the IRS overpays part of a letter.

What even is this?

Tax notices are letters from the IRS or the Oregon Department of Revenue. They’re usually AI generated and the accounting industry estimates that over 70% of them are wrong. We can easily fight them, but that takes time, skill, and professional credentials. We’ve got you covered there. Even if the notice is correct, we may be able to help you negotiate a lower amount or a reasonable payment schedule. Let’s talk.

What happens if I ignore them?

The notices will continue, interest and penalties will build, and eventually the (probably incorrect) notice will result in a garnishment which cannot be reversed. It’s really important to act as soon as possible.

What can I do when I get a notice?

Take pictures or scan the document over to us. PLEASE use a secure app like WhatsApp, MEGA, or Sync. Never, ever just email them to us because your identity information is on the letters and your identity can easily be stolen. We’ll be in contact asap to talk about next steps.

Why is this happening?

In 2021, President Biden dramatically restructured the Internal Revenue Service into the Internal Revenue Agency which included massively expanding the use of AI in spite of the error rate. States have followed along, also in spite of the error rate. We don’t yet have statistics of how much money the government rakes in from this method of stealing taxpayer dollars. We also don’t have reliable data that AI reduces government spending, but we do have reliable, consistent data that proves AI is one of the biggest contributors to climate disasters. It’s also easy to see how this new form of government crime further punishes and excludes poor people for existing.

None of this is okay and we don't have a way to stop the attacks. We can help you fight them.
